New and unused BD Viper axe. Probably the best all-round axe available. I use a pair as my main winter tools and can't fault them. This one is surplus to my needs. Can post. Technical stuff below. Black Diamond have evolved this classic technical tool with a new shaft and grip set-up. The shaft has been 'hydroformed' into an I section, making it both lighter and stiffer than the old model, whilst maintaining exceptional clearance. The Viper also now comes equipped with both the Fang and Strike to cradle your hand for precise gripping and extra support whilst going leashless. The main advantage of this is that the hole in the ferrule is now no longer covered by the fang as it was on the old model - the hole is thankfuly easily large enough to take a carabiner for a lanyard (or belay point!). The Viper is a true all terrain tool - ideal for those looking to progress in all aspects of winter climbing. Excellent balance makes for a great swing, which combined with serious clearance mean this tool is superb on pure ice. Suited for leashless use or with the Lockdown Leash. The tool also has with an attachment point half way up the shaft for the excellent Cobra/Viper Android leash. The Viper is also great for Scottish mixed climbing. Bomb proof construction allied with great details such as the serrated adze and tapered hammer help put it ahead of the pack on gnarly mixed ground.
